1. Just one more rep!


When you start getting worn out in your workout, it’s easy to stop early or call off an exercise completely.


With this little mantra, you will be amazed at how much more you can do.

If you are doing squats and you feel your legs start to get weak, don’t worry about getting to your “rep count,” just focus on the NEXT rep.


See if you can just do one more. Then after that one, see if you can do one more. By breaking it down into one at a time, it makes the task of getting to 10, 15, or 20 reps much more manageable!

2. Last set, best set


We all have a tendency to slack off as we get tired, but if you keep this in mind, you will find you finish every exercise strong.

So, when you are on that last set of your push ups, don’t think, “just let me survive!” Tell yourself “last set, best set” and give this set your all. Perfect form, perfect tempo, and when you start to struggle, remember...just one more rep!

3. The burn is a good burn


Exercise can be uncomfortable, but if you can remember that not all pain is created equal, you can push through the “good” burn that exercise produces.


Think about it this way...when your muscles start to burn, that is when results begin to happen. So go for the burn and know that you are getting the most out of your exercises.

4. Add one


Do you feel like you never get any stronger or better at your exercises? This one’s for you.


Next time you do a set, try for just ONE more rep in your second set. Then one more in your third and so on.


Next time you are working out, start out one rep higher than you started last time. It is amazing what a difference just one rep can make...and if you do this consistently, you cannot help but get stronger and leaner.

5. You can do anything for 10 seconds


This one is great for any type of exercise that you have to hold. Take planks as an example. When you are planking, you are probably thinking...when is this thing done?!


But if you can focus on 10 second increments, you will be able to get more done. And when it starts to burn (and you are so excited because you know it’s a good burn!) just think...I can do anything for 10 more seconds.


Making it Count


While these may be a starting point, to really ensure that they work for you, you have to make them your own. You might have a different way of saying it...or a different mantra altogether.


The goal is just to find what little saying is going to help you get the most out of your time in the gym, because while success is 80% showing up...that other 20% does make a difference!
