How to Keep Active this Summer


One of the best things about summer is the opportunity to get outside. To help you make the most of the warm weather, we have put together our favorite outdoor activities!


By staying active AND outside, you will not only get the benefits of exercise, but also have the chance to experience the benefits of getting with friends, soaking up the sun, and being by water...all very therapeutic activities.

The Best Outdoor Activities to Get You in Shape


Here are our favorite activities...and like I mentioned above, these are best when done with friends!


1) Trail Hiking


What makes trail hiking so great is that it gives you a chance to explore whatever area you find yourself in. Whether you are sticking around town or going on an adventure this summer, find some trails and start climbing!


2) Paddleboarding


If you really want a workout, learn how to paddleboard. Strength, balance, core control, stamina -- all of these things will be built just by standing up on a board. It doesn't get much simpler. That doesn’t mean it’s easy though!


3) Golfing


Yes, golf is great, but if you really want to make it a “fit” activity, you are going to need to walk the course. There is no better way to get a 5-mile hike in than strolling through a beautiful golf course. Want to get even more out of your round? Carry your bag!


4) Bike Tours


Another great activity whether you are home or away, bike touring gives you a chance to see the sights while keeping moving. Your call on whether you want a guided tour or if you just rent bikes and create your own adventure, but either way it is a great way to get out and about!


5) Beach Volleyball


Wow...what a workout! Beach volleyball (or any sport on the beach for that matter) is going to work muscles you never knew you had, and you won’t even realize it until the next day.


6) Kayaking


If you have a beach vacation planned, kayaking can be a great way to explore the coastline, coves, and canals in ways few other means of transportation allow.


7) River Rafting


River rafting great in and of itself, but when you realize how many other things you can do WHILE river rafting, it is one of the ultimate “fit” activities. You can camp, hike, and swim (just to name a few) all while making your way down a beautiful river.


So, as you plan your summer, see if and when you can sneak in some of these activities. Round up some friends for a hike in the nearby mountains, plan a golf outing with your buddies, or schedule a family trip to the beach.


Whatever you do, take advantage, because the summer always seems to fly by too fast.
